Andrew Davison

Andrew Davison works for Historic England. He is co-author (with the late Geoff Brandwood and Michael Slaughter) of ‘Licensed to sell: the history and heritage of the public house”, published by English Heritage in 2004, with a revised edition in 2011. It was whilst researching for that book that he first became aware of the influence the Temperance movement (the anti-alcohol campaign of the later C19 and early C20) had upon public house design in this country. He has also published papers on the Temperance movement’s own buildings.

He lives in West Yorkshire.
